It has certainly been a memorable year, full of rich learnings, achievements, inspiration and pride.

Kilvington Community Fair

We kicked off the year with the Kilvington Fair, our biggest biennial community event. It was wonderful to see one of the School’s pillars – community – on full display.  Our ongoing aim is to build a connected and giving community, and the Fair provides an excellent opportunity to do just that.   So many members of our community - students, parents, alumni and staff - volunteered goods and services and, most importantly, their time. As a result of their efforts, $28,000 was raised which went towards developing outdoor play areas and gardens.

Sport Centre Opening

At the beginning of Term 2, we opened our new state-of-the-art Sport Centre – the first in the School’s 96-year history. We now have a building that says we take a holistic education seriously and a space that represents physical and mental wellbeing, sportsmanship, teamwork, and fun!

Our senior girl’s Central netball team won the School’s first Grand Final in the new Centre. It’s been a joy to see students and staff use the fully-fitted fitness room not only during classes but also before and after school.

Upstairs in the multi-purpose room, students have enjoyed table tennis, dance and other activities, and staff have enjoyed participating in a leadership conference.

The Centre was officially opened in August by Federal Member for Goldstein, Hon. Tim Wilson. Kelli Underwood, ABC and Foxtel sports commentator acted as MC and Melbourne United basketball team, Tohi Smith-Milner made a guest appearance. It was fantastic to see the full-size basketball covered wall to wall by our students. Perhaps the highlight was the Dodgeball exhibition match between staff and students – the former getting the chocolates this year!

Year 9 - Impact Program

We also launched our new Year 9 Program – Impact - a unique and engaging program that will give students a range of experiences and opportunities that prepare them for Senior School and, more importantly, life after Kilvington.

STEAM

Early Commencement this year saw the first group of Year 9 students head off to Monash University to commence the social enterprise part of the program called It’s Everyone’s Business.

This year, our first group of students completed the VCE Systems Engineering subject. This is an important transition opportunity for students who have completed Robotics as an elective in their earlier years as well as participated in the Robotics Club and annual competitions. STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Maths) continues to be a key focus at the School with a week dedicated to a range of programs and activities that highlight the diverse and fascinating world of it. Even our ELC students are involved, with an important government STEM pilot program being run at the School.

Congratulations to the winner of this year's Judy Allen Award, Janine Mitchell.

This year’s most worthy winner has made an incredible contribution to the School, most notably through the Parents and Friends Association.  She has been a warm and welcoming presence to new families holding the role of Class Social Representative for three years and Senior School PFA Vice President for two years. She has even inspired her wider family to get involved. It is not unusual to see her mother at events and helping out with fundraising efforts.

Janine continually goes over and above to help others in need and we were delighted to see her awarded with the Judy Allen Award at Presentation Night this year.
