College Swimming Carnival 2020

The 2020 College Swimming Carnival was a big success to say the least! Held at Aquanation on February 12th, participation from all Year levels and Houses was at an all-time high, which made it a super enjoyable day and a great competition. The day was full of cheering, diving, swimming and splashing, as well as lots of colour as everyone went to great efforts to create a sea of their House's colour.

We congratulate all students for their participation and success, especially those who moved on to the Monash division round and competed on Thursday, February 27th.  Of course, the day couldn’t have happened and ran so smoothly without the great time and effort of Ms. Lay and Ms. Pryde! Big thank you to you guys, as well as to all the House Captains who did a great job of organising relays and getting students into events!

Jells House where absolute superstars and gave all their events everything, enabling us to win the shield for the second year in a row! Congratulations Jells students and teachers! You guys are awesome. Let’s keep the enthusiasm and excitement high and do it all again at the Athletics Carnival on Monday, March 16th! GO JELLS!!!

Top Class Season of Excellence | Student Monologue

Wheelers Hill Secondary College are proud to congratulate Year 12 Student and Arts Captain, Jack T, for his recent selection into the VCAA Season of Excellence: Top Class Theatre Studies. The VCAA Season of Excellence celebrates outstanding performances from students who completed Unit 4 VCE subjects in the Performing and Visual Arts.

Jack completed Unit 4 Theatre Studies in 2019, as an advanced subject and received wonderful results. For his Monologue Examination, he presented an interpretation of the Australian play “Hoods” by Angela Betzien, where he utilised physical theatre, clever sound design, hip-hop conventions and outstanding technology. His in-depth research and hours of rehearsal resulted in full marks for the examination, and an invitation to audition for Top Class. His selection in this program will see him perform at Melbourne’s culturally renowned Playhouse Theatre at Arts Centre Melbourne, placing himself and Wheelers Hill Secondary College as one of the top performing Victorian schools in the Performing Arts. Congratulations, Jack!

Lions Youth of the Year Competition

During this week, two of our VCE students, Mikayla H and Emily F, competed in the annual Lions Youth of the Year Competition. The 'Lions Youth of the Year' ('YOTY') Program was established more than 50 years ago with the objective of developing and honing participants' skills associated with interview technique, personal interaction, networking, public speaking and 'thinking-on-your-feet'. The qualities sought, apart from academic attainments are those of leadership, personality, sportsmanship, public speaking and good citizenship.  Youth of the Year is designed to encourage student interest in leadership and the qualities required to take an active and constructive role in the community.

It gives me great pleasure to announce that on the evening Mikayla H was awarded the Public Speaking Award, and Emily F won the Wheelers Hill Lions Club Award, and will go on to compete in the Youth of the Year zone judging in March. We are absolutely thrilled for both girls, who worked extremely hard to earn these coveted awards.
