Netball

Recently we had the senior netball team make it through to the zone preliminary finals after winning the Beachside Round Robin.

Volleyball

The Year 7 volleyball team played at the Beachside level attempting to make it through to the zone finals, but were unfortunately outclassed on the day.

Australian Rules

On Monday three Australian Rules football teams with players from Years 7 to 12 represented our school. Twenty-three girls made up the Junior Football team. The team played extremely well and kept up a high intensity throughout all their games. The first game they played Cheltenham Secondary College and won 54 to 7. The second game they played Beaumaris Secondary College and won 33 to 5 and in the last game they won against Albert Park College 29 to 1.  Sascha Pribil (captain), Isobel Long and Alexandra Stranger (vice captain) took some great marks and kicked the ball long. Our small mid fielders Skye Ferguson, Flip Leighton and Hope Maillard attacked the ball well. Sapphire Harrison-Corney showed great strength through her numerous tackles on the opposition. We had many goal kickers and I’m looking forward to the next round.

It was a great team effort by the Intermediates and the Seniors. All played hard and demonstrated skill. A special mention to Rosie Byrne, Ella Southgate and Mikala Clarke (Intermediates) and Jas Hands and Taylah Tysoe whose skills were superb.

Congratulations to all the players. The Southern Metropolitan Region Preliminary finals for Juniors and Intermediates are on 24 July.

House Cross Country

The 2018 Mentone Girls’ Secondary College Cross Country carnival is to be held at the school on Wednesday 16 May. The event is run during Period 3 (11.50am to 1.05pm) for Year 7 to 9 students and during lunchtime (1.05pm to 1.40pm) for Years 10 to 12 students. The top 15 students from each age group will go on to compete at the Beachside Cross Country carnival on Tuesday 22 May. Below are a few details about times, locations and uniform.

Please encourage your daughter/s to be a part of another fantastic school competition.

Year 7  - Come to school in full PE uniform, roll marking is in Period 3 classroom and then marshal outside JLC at noon. Race starts at 12.10pm.

Year 8   - Come to school in full PE uniform, roll marking is in Period 3 classroom, then meet on the tennis courts and marshal at 12.20pm. Race starts at 12.30pm.

Year 9 -  Come to school in full PE uniform, roll marking is in Period 3 classroom, then meet in the gym and marshal at 12.40pm. Race starts 12.50pm.

Year 10-12 -  Change into PE uniform at recess or the start of lunch, and marshal on the oval at 1.15pm. Race starts at 1.20pm.

Important

  • Age groups – Whatever age your daughter/s is at the end of the year is their age group, ie: Sam turns 14 in December so she is Under 14, or Casey turned 13 in February so she is Under 13.
  • Participation - It is important that students compete for their House as each competitor will get at least one point.
  • Races - Students will be running in age groups as it is easier for the race recorders to only be dealing with the one age group at a time. There may be some Year 10 students who are in the Under 15 age group, they will run at lunchtime and the results will be adjusted to the Under 15 age group.
  • Uniform - Full PE uniform is required, NO leggings or tights are to be worn. Only Years 7 to 9 are allowed to come to school with the correct PE uniform. Years 10 to 12 are to change at recess or before their race starts.

Students unable to participate due to illness or injury, a written note must be provided and submitted to the PE teacher prior to period 3 on the day.

Students who have qualified to represent the college will be running at Beachside Cross Country on Tuesday 22 May. These students will be provided with some information after the House event.
