Careers and Remote Learning

Well done to our DSC students and staff who've smoothly transitioned to online learning. While you are all busy working in your classes from locations across the city, the Careers Centre team are here and readily available to continue supporting all DSC students who may have questions about subjects, courses, VCE, VCAL, Careers (Work) Experience and ATAR. We are also exploring some exciting alternative ways to deliver some of our careers programs in this very different learning environment – stay tuned!

Whilst this term is going to look a little different to past years, the programs, information and support will remain. Some key points for now include:

All students Please Note:

  • Mrs Ramsay and the Careers Team are available to discuss any queries via phone (9848 4677), email and online meetings.
  • Our Careers Website and in particular Career News each week, will provide information and links on a range of topics.
  • All students will be creating their Career Action Plans using My Career Portfolio during DiSCovery in the coming weeks.
  • VETdSS students in Years 10-12 who are undertaking a Vocational Training course should ensure they are able to access their online learning through their TAFE portal. Mrs Wakeham can provide support if needed.

Year 12s:

  • VTAC and the VCAA are committed to supporting continuity of secondary education and progression to higher education for all VCE students, including calculation of the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR). Any important changes to VCE will be communicated to students through DSC staff, however VTAC have also provided an update page for Year 12 students.
  • Universities and TAFEs are also working to have up to date information of their courses available and readily accessible on their websites and some have upcoming webinars – see Career News.

  • Senior VCAL students should continue to communicate regularly with their employers, TAFE trainers, atEast and school.

Year 10s:

  • Our scheduled Careers Experience Program, scheduled for June 22-26 this year, will need to be looked at a little differently. Whilst we hope that some students may still be able to attend their arranged placement during that time or later in the year, we expect that for most students it won’t be possible for them to undertake a usual Work Experience placement. An alternate program is being developed with opportunities to undertake new activities including Virtual Work Experience. Details will be provided closer to the date
  • Career Interviews or MIPs (Managed Individual Pathways interviews) will continue this term using online meetings. Interviews will be scheduled on Compass and show on students' timetables, along with instructions and links to access an online meeting.

Year 9s:

  • My Career Insights is a program provided to all Year 9 students at Victorian Government schools. Next month, our Year 9 students will complete a Morrisby Career Assessment and later in the term, participate in an online career interviews. Details will be provided through Compass NewsFeed.
