Acting Principal’s Report

Brent Houghton

I hope that you do take the time to have a good read through this newsletter. I was speaking earlier today with our Library Technician, Beth Barrass, who always does a great job of compiling this newsletter. Beth remarked that this newsletter was almost back to pre-COVID ‘old times’ with the number of exciting activities, events and contributions from students.

One event that we did hold in a virtual format was the VCE Arts and Design Exhibition. Kudos to Studio Arts teacher, Emma McCowan, who put this together with help from teachers Jo Jepsen (Product Design and Technology), Fiona Storrie (Visual Communication and Design), Harriet Turnbull (Studio Arts) as well as Andrew Wood (Arts and Technology Technician). The student work displayed is fantastic. The pieces have been impacted by the pandemic and our students and staff have had to find ways to progress their work in the circumstances of remote learning for much of the year. But, as many people believe, creativity can thrive through adversity, and the resilience of our students should be recognised. Please take a look:

This week and next our exam periods finish and next week our Headstart program commences for current students in Years 9, 10 and 11 undertaking VCE studies in 2021. We also look forward to welcoming our new Year 7 class of 2021 at the Year 7 Orientation Day on Tuesday 8th December.

A final congratulations to a beloved former MGC colleague and now Principal at Richmond West Primary School, Tip Kennedy. Tip and her team were recognised at the recent Victorian Excellence in Education Awards for their work in providing students with rich experiences of global cultures and languages. Well done, Tip!
