JUNIOR SCHOOL

A warm welcome to all our students, new families and especially to the newest members of our college community, our year 7 students. The well documented trials and challenges of 2020 were left behind, as our year 7 students enthusiastically began their secondary college journey. On the first day, there were hugs aplenty, numerous photos and some tearful parents. It was joyous to once again hear the cacophony of young voices eagerly communicating the uncertainty of all that is new, much anticipated and eagerly embraced.
The remnants of last year are still felt as we continue to socially distance where we can, maintain good hygiene practices and limit visitor numbers and gatherings. Nevertheless, whilst some aspects of our college life have yet to return to normal, we gratefully look forward to others. Next week our year 7 and 12 students are off to camp at Anglesea and Phillip Island respectively, and our year 8 students will be off on their hiking experience a fortnight after.
2020 forced us to pivot, adapt, be flexible and not to underestimate our capabilities. At BSC our staff and students pulled together, despite being apart and demonstrated resilience and perseverance in overcoming an unprecedented educational learning environment. This was most evident in the excellent results achieved by our 2020 Year 12 students – as outlined in this week’s Highlights. We congratulate their stamina, commitment, grit and determination.
As a college we also pulled together to successfully achieve membership of the Council of International Schools (CIS). The CIS is a leader in the field of school evaluation.
It’s an internationally recognised accreditation with a focus on the development of students as global citizens. The ethos and values of the CIS perfectly align with our own and we are incredibly proud of this achievement. We look forward to continuing the rigorous process of self-evaluation and improvement as we work towards full accreditation.
As Marie Curie famously said: Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves.
With that, I wish all our students a most productive and fulfilling 2021 and I offer a simple but important message to all of our year 7 students, - give everything a go, make the most of every opportunity and always try your very best.
