First Week of School was a Winner

The first week of school was a great start to 2021 with lots of smiles and laughter.  It was a  wonderful week of getting back into school routines and rekindling class friendships.  Here's some pictures taken during our first week to show how smoothly our students settled into their new year at school.  Welcome everyone!

Introducing New LCS Staff

We have a number of new staff joining us in 2021 including our new Head of Senior School, Mrs Kerry McCracken.  Kerry moved down from Victoria at the start of 2021 and will be teaching Year 11 & 12 Legal Studies.  She is also a parent at our school with her youngest child joining our Year 7 students this year.  We hope you take the time to welcome her family to our school community.

We also have some new Teachers joining us in 2021.   Mrs Bessie Strating will be working in our Junior School helping teach Prep & Year 6, Mr Nathan Guy has joined our Middle School, teaching Year 7 & 8 and Mr Glenn Deas will be covering our Senior/Middle Computing Courses as well as some Science & Maths classes.

Teachers at LCS are well supported by our team of wonderful Teacher Aides. This year we have some new aides that have joined us, as our school continues to flourish and grow. Welcome to Monica Kibbel, Ella Connors and Jed Matthews who will work in our Secondary area, Tamara Hammond who has joined our HEC team & Hannah van Donselaar and Laura Boyle who will be working with our Kinder students.

We also welcome back Mrs Taryn Brown and Mrs Ally Macqueen from maternity leave.

LCS also has new cleaning and support staff that have joined us this year, with more to come.  We warmly welcome everyone to our school community and wish them a very blessed year ahead!

NSATIS Basketball has started

Round 1 of the NSATIS Basketball season commenced on Wednesday afternoon. The boys 1sts had a close match against St. Brendan Shaw going down 48-40. The boys 3rds had an even closer match, drawing 40-40 with SPC! Thanks to all those who came along to support.

It’s great to have a previous LCS student, Ben, as the coach of the NSATIS Snr 1sts Boys team for the 2021 season! Ben graduated from LCS last year and in 2021 is juggling his basketball commitments with the North West Thunder in the NBL1 league and the state under 20 Tasmanian men’s team and has been good enough to come back and help out with coaching! Thanks so much Ben - our students are appreciating your wonderful coaching skills!

Our Office Ladies Shine

What better way to start a new year by updating uniforms.  That's exactly what our office ladies have done and they are looking fabulous!  In a busy area of our school it's a bonus to be able to have some choice in colours too, hence the multiple pictures below!  Thank you ladies for all you do as you support our school community in endless ways - we appreciate your smiles, your help, your information, your encouragement, your prayers and thank you for the many blessings you give our school community.

The Rite Journey has started

The Rite Journey has begun for our Year 9 students and Mrs Armstrong's class met Lola and Frankie recently. This program is run in our school with all Year 9 and helps guide students as they transition into adulthood; providing discussion, mentoring, times of reflection, opportunities to understand who they are and explore deeper the relationships they have with family and those around them. We think Lola and Frankie got a lot of love when they visited this TRJ group!

On Tuesday last week the Year 9 Rite Journey boys travelled to the Trevallyn Reserve with Mr Macqueen, Mr McGeachy and Mr Lundie to participate in the hunt to find a 'Talking Stick' as part of their Rite Journey activities. The boys embraced this opportunity and actively engaged in the hunt for a suitable 'talking stick'. It was impressive to see the boys demonstrating that they can be responsible for and inclusive of each other, whilst having fun and enjoying what Mr Macqueen and Mr McGeachy had planned for them.

The talking stick symbolises the bond and trust each student is placing in the other in embarking on their Rite Journey, it signifies the hopes of commitment, respect and unity that underpin the group activities for the Year 9 boys as they walk together on their passage throughout the Rite Journey year. Embodied in the 'talking stick' is the confidence to speak up on issues that matter, to listen to others with an open heart and to place trust in the confidence held by each student.  Well done boys, what a great start to an exciting year!

More exciting activities are being planned for this program.  If you'd like to know more about The Rite Journey why not download our Parent Handbook below:

Rex Sainty

LCS was deeply saddened to hear the news of the passing of Rex Sainty. Rex (and his family) have had a long association with our school community. His humour, joviality, respect, generosity and loyalty to LCS was evident and appreciated. He showed genuine care, kindness and compassion to all children and was a close friend to many in our community.

Many students will recall their last bus trip with Rex as an LCS student, as he happily chauffeured them to their Graduation Dinner. Rex was a true gentleman and is it has been an honour to be in the long term partnership our school has had with Rex, Sheila and their staff. LCS extends our sincere condolences to Sheila, the family and the whole extended 'Sainty' family.

2021 SRC

Introducing our 2021 SRC Executive. Serving our community is a privilege and this talented group of passionate students are already meeting to plan for the year ahead. It's wonderful to see their enthusiasm in their leadership roles at our school have begun from Day 1! Thank you SRC and all the best for a great year ahead!

Parking at LCS

Please take time to read our Parking Policy for our school to avoid any issues with safety that may occur when dropping off or picking up children at our school.  A full copy can be downloaded below and we encourage all parents to read this as it contains a lot of helpful information.

Is your child interested in learning a musical instrument?

LCS has a number of instrument teachers who take students for individual lessons at school during school hours. This is an excellent way to learn an instrument and can help students make much faster progress on their instrument. It is recommended that student’s seriously contemplating studying music from Year 9 onwards definitely consider having some private instrument tuition to further their overall music advancement. Any students in Year 5 – 8 who are serious about starting an instrument should also have lessons in order to learn crucial proper technique early in their playing life.

Students continuing lessons from last year will be individually contacted by their teachers to organise lessons for the year.

We currently have teachers available for the following instruments:

Piano/keyboard

Clarinet/saxophone and beginning Flute

Guitar

Voice

Drums

2021 Building Fund Contribution

What is the Building Fund contribution on my School Fee statement?

In 2020 for the first time, a tax-deductible Building Fund contribution was included on every family’s School Fee statement.  This isn’t a new charge though – every year, part of your School Fees has been budgeted towards different costs such as teachers’ wages, teaching resources, library books, sporting equipment, and building maintenance and projects etc.  So while part of your fees has always been allocated towards building costs, we have made it possible for families to claim it as a tax deduction.

Does this mean I’m paying more than I used to?

The Building Fund is not an increase to fees, it’s just a part of your normal fees shown separately. Any increase in fees between 2020 and 2021 is in line with normal incremental annual increases.

Every student has been charged our standard advertised fees as follows:

Do I have to make this contribution?

Your contribution to the tax-deductible fund is voluntary.  If you don’t want to contribute to the fund, the 2.5% portion of your fees will instead be payable towards the general budget which is not tax deductible.

What if I don’t have taxable income?

You may still contribute to the Building Fund without claiming it as a tax deduction.

How much can I claim as a tax deduction?

Your tax-deductible contribution is 2.5% of your family’s fees.  To find your family’s tax deductible amount, add the Building Fund contribution for Tuition Fees (listed in the left hand “Debits” column) and subtract the Building Fund contribution for Sibling Discounts (listed in the right and “Credits”) column.

Example:

School FeesDebitsCredits
Tax Deductible Contribution to The L.C.S. Foundation Limited Building Fund (Primary)105.00
Less Tax Deductible Contribution to The L.C.S. Foundation Limited Building Fund (Primary) (Sibling discount) (42.00)

Your total tax deductible donation for this student is $63
