From the College Captains

College Captains:

Aimee Harris

For those who don’t know me, I’m Aimee Harris and I’m one of the school captains for 2021.

I've been at Glen Eira College since Year 7, and have loved every bit. I have watched the school develop and change over the last six years, and although 2020 was a testing year for everyone, I’m hoping that we can continue some of the wonderful initiatives that our predecessors began. My co-captains and I hope to take these initiatives to new heights in 2021. I have a passion for community and charity work and I love to engage the student body in working together as a school unit. Not only does this help to make positive change within the school and wider community, but also gives our college the opportunity to support those less fortunate than ourselves.

Ever since I joined the college I have always looked up to the captains of the school, and now, as I have the honour alongside Joseph to be one of the captains for 2021, I am excited to be a role model myself. I am doing my best to fulfil my role as captain, going about every day with distinction, and I hope, by modelling this behaviour, I can inspire others to one day become a captain of Glen Eira College as well.

Joseph Folwell

Hi everyone! My name is Joseph Folwell and it is an absolute privilege to take on the role of College Captain alongside Aimee for 2021.

It is crazy to think how far I have come after just one year here at Glen Eira. I am so thankful for the amazing opportunities the college has provided me with so far, and I am beyond excited to for the year ahead! As College Captains, our main focus is to ensure there is an open line of communication between us and our fellow peers.

I have always been a strong advocate for youth mental health and the importance of speaking up. It is essential that after the tough and unprecedented year that was 2020, we continue to check in with our friends and family to ask if they are doing okay.

2021 is going to be such an amazing year! Let’s continue to support each other and give everything a go! Best of luck everyone.

College Vice Captains:

Alannah De Jesus

Hi everyone! My name is Alannah and I am one of the 2021 vice captains. I’ve been coming to Glen Eira College since the beginning of year 7.  While it is my last year in high school there are many students who have just started their learning journey at Glen Eira, such as my sister. I not only want to ensure that her experience is one to remember but that all students take advantage of the amazing opportunities offered here to ensure a great year. An important note that I want you all to know is that we understand that 2020 had its difficulties for everyone and that we had to overcome a lot of different problems. The other captains and I are here to support the students in all possible ways whenever we are needed, whether it be to talk or help students find support elsewhere. I hope that the students treat 2021 as a fresh start and not let 2020 hold them back from a range of experiences and opportunities.

Alexander Leathley

Hello everyone

For those who don't know me, I am Alexander Leathley and it is my pleasure to inform you that I am one of the Glen Eira College’s school vice-captains along with Alannah De Jesus for 2021.

Ever since joining Glen Eira College in year 7, I have always looked for ways to help and support my fellow students and make their time at GEC the best that it can be.

As you all know, 2020 was by far a very unprecedented year for students, teachers and parents alike. We were all faced with enormous challenges and had to learn to adapt and to cope without any of the support that we all had grown used to having. The students of Glen Eira College were unable to participate in activities and hang out with their school friends. But this year, 2021 is going to be different for everyone. There are a large number of activities that are being planned for the students and we as the school captains and vice-captains highly encourage the students of GEC to join in at every opportunity that is available. There is, for example: the swimming carnival, cross country and a futsal competition.

If any of the students have any suggestions, ideas or just need someone to talk to. The school college captains and vice-captains are here to help them.

Cheers and good luck students, for 2021
