GECPA News

Welcome to the GECPA in 2021

Bring on 2021! The Glen Eira College Parent’s Association (GECPA) is an informal and friendly group of parents and carers of students at Glen Eira College (GEC). We support the school community and promote genuine parental engagement with GEC. We would love you to get involved!

Your level of involvement is up to you - but your time and experience will be appreciated.

What do we do?

  • We act as a link between our parent community and GEC.
  • We represent an organised, parent perspective.
  • We provide parents and carers of students at GEC with a voice.
  • We support the school community by hosting events and share information.
  • We are involved in fundraising for the school.

Plus – joining GECPA is a great way to meet other parents and carers.

GEC School Family Picnic @ Booran Reserve

GEC School Family ‘Getting to know you’ Picnic @ Booran Reserve.

When: Sunday 28th February 2021.

What time: 11am - 2pm

All welcome!

BYO picnic. In keeping with the major feature of Booran Reserve – its environmental and sustainable design - how about we try using only reusable picnic plates, cups, etc (aiming for a rubbish/plastic-free event). Let’s have a go!

Look out for the banners and follow the laughter…

Fingers crossed that the weather is on our side!

As GEC families come from many cultures – you may like to bring a plate and share food from your culture – remember to please write a label with all your ingredients. I’m dreaming of dosa…..

Breakfast Club at GEC

GECPA is delighted to have contributed to the GEC School Breakfast Club program. The program is set to commence on Friday 19th February 2021.

The School Breakfast Club offers free and healthy food for students and will occur on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 8:00am to 8:30am, in the Kitchen and Wellbeing Garden located behind Food Tech Rooms 2 and 3.

The School Breakfast Club aims to ensure students start the day with a healthy meal, improve concentration throughout the school day and help students make friends and strong social connections. The Kitchen and Wellbeing Garden is a warm and welcoming space for students to enjoy a great start to their day

Student leaders and the SRC will soon be invited to assist with the running of the program and your GECPA is also excited to get involved!

If parents and carers are available and interested in assisting with set up, pack up or collection of bread on one or more days from Monday 15th March onwards, please contact:

GECPA Parents and Carers Opinion Survey

Every school community is different

Every school, like every community, has different demographics, different strengths and different needs.

At the GECPA we want to make sure that we are representing the views of the parents and carers at Glen Eira College - not just the views of those who have joined the Association.

Who are the parents at GEC? What do we want for our child(ren) during their time at GEC? How do we want to engage with the College?

Complete a short 2-3-minute survey. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/JDYLFQ9

We know that parental engagement at your child’s school can have a significant impact on their grades, social skills and positively impact their behaviour.

We take privacy seriously. Your answers are subject to privacy protection. We will share all the results of this survey in aggregate only – no individual responses will be shared.

Second Hand Uniform Sale - By Appointment

While we are unable to schedule a second-hand uniform stall last year – we all know why - we are happy to arrange appointments with interested parents. Please email us at gecpa@gec.vic.edu.au and nominate a few times/dates that suit.  Please note we can only accommodate a maximum of two people at a time and item availability cannot be guaranteed.

Tree Story brings together creative practices from around the world to create a ‘forest’ of ideas relating to critical environmental and sustainability issues. At its foundation—or roots—are Indigenous ways of knowing and a recognition of trees as our ancestors and family. An exhibition, publication and podcast series, Tree Story takes inspiration from the underground networks, information-sharing and mutual support understood to exist within tree communities, and poses the question: what can we learn from trees and the importance of Country?
