Year 9 COVID and Geography Inquiry Project

At the end of 2020, Year 9 students developed an inquiry project around the theme of ‘If the COVID lock down continued for 5 years, would your 5km community have food security? As the project was driven and developed by students to investigate the geographical landscape, use and impact of trying to feed their community, Soleha Foret and Naomi Wong’s project resulted in an impressive research into their local community using Geographical Inquiry Concepts. Their solutions for a sustainable society caught in a COVID lockdown was a credit to the two researchers. Congratulations on your exceptional work.

2019 Literature Class

Students from the 2019 Literature Class (Luise Verhoeven, Sierra Danon and Ashleigh Harris) reciprocated the kind visit by Sister Paula to GEC. Sister Paula presented an insightful and academic analysis of the text to the classroom when we were studying a novel set in 13th England focusing on a feminist perspective. When we returned the favour at the Carmelite Monastery in Kew, the students engaged in a deep discussion of Catholic values and the nuns daily lives that is ‘contemplative in its prayer, eremitical in its spirit of retirement from the world, and monastic in its usages and Liturgy, in worship and divine praise.’ It was a lovely afternoon at the Carmelite Monastery and a privilege to share company and tea with Sister Paula.
