I have included here part of what I said to the leaders and the school at the Induction Mass.
As a Catholic school we ask our students to understand that it is belief in Jesus and his teachings that underpin all our actions. We are good people who are kind and forgiving, for example, not simply because it is a good thing to do but because we follow the teachings of Jesus where he asks us to behave like this and He modelled this for us. The school asks you to be the best version of you that you can be - to grow towards wholeness - and help others too, because of our belief in Jesus. Jesus said 'I have come so that they may have life and have it to the full.' John 10.10.
Life in all its fullness means that you are following the path of God and he is helping you along the way to wholeness. It means to live a life knowing that you have lived the way Jesus has taught you to. As leaders you have a special role to help your peers to live the way Jesus has taught us.
Our school motto - as we all know - is to “Act Justly”, Love tenderly and walk humbly with God. This is our vision for the school.
What does this mean for the student leaders who have been chosen to lead - which is a great privilege and also a responsibility.
As leaders you take on the responsibility of living this vision, leading your peers and working together as a team for the purpose of improving the school, and helping us all to Live life to the full.
As leaders I ask you to show curiosity and a growth mindset towards your learning. To work with your teachers, and show the way for student learning to occur. The school wants you to use your voice appropriately in the classroom and approach challenges with an open mind.
