Principal's Message...

Dear Families,

STAFFING NEWS

It is with great delight that I announce to our community that Ashlyn Keane and her husband Alex are expecting their first child.  Ashlyn will (most likely) commence her parental leave at the end of term 2.  HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to them both!!

STUDENT LEADERSHIP

It has taken a while, but we finally had ALL of our House Captains present at school for their official photo.

Congratulations to:

Oliver and Elisa - Mannix House Captains

Nikita and Ella - Simonds House Captains

Massimo and Heidi - Carr House Captains

Ginger and Maria - Goold House Captains

On behalf of all of the staff we look forward to working with you in 2022.

I would also like to congratulate all of our senior students who have assumed various Leadership Roles this year.  For more details see 'Senior Leaders' section of this Newsletter.

CURRICULUM EVENING

Thank you to all of our families who joined our Learning and Teaching Parent Information Sessions on Feb 22.  I hope that you found the information useful and that you were provided the opportunity to have some questions answered about the structure of your child's year level and their learning.  Hopefully next year we will be able to have these sessions face-to-face rather than via a Zoom link!

PREP FAMILY FUN NIGHT

Last Friday we held our Prep Family Fun Night.  Thank you Jo and Aruna who assisted Carmel with the organisation around this event and thanks to our Prep Families who attended.  It was a great afternoon and the children (and parents!!) were wonderfully entertained by 'Elf Sneaky Bottom' who performed magic tricks, sang songs and provided much hilarity!

Our Prep Family Fun Night is a great tradition and provided families the opportunity to get to know each other and chat to staff in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Our Prep students commence full-time this week - I hope they are not too tired at end of the week!!

HARMONY WEEK & National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence

Friday March 18 is the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence, and Harmony Week is from March 21-25.  Ashlyn Keane, in her capacity as Wellbeing Leader, has organised activities to acknowledge these important days.  Please see the Wellbeing section of this newsletter for more details.

PARENT/TEACHER INTERVIEWS

Parent/Teacher Interviews for children in grades 1-6 will be held on Tuesday April 5.  The format of these meetings are reciprocal and aim to provide the opportunity:

  • for parents and teachers to meet and establish communication
  • for parents to provide any relevant information to the teacher regarding their child
  • for parents to express any concerns they may have about their child
  • for parents and teachers to set objectives regarding the child for the year
  • for teachers to share your child’s data/starting points in their learning.

Children in grades 1-6 will be dismissed at 1:30pm on this day.  A note will be sent home in the near future with more details.

CLASS PARENT REPs

Calling all helpers!!!

In the last newsletter I put the following call-out for any parents who may be available to volunteer as a Class Rep.  As I mentioned the task is not an onerous one, and can be taken on by a few parents who band together - or individually.

Please consider this as it's a great way to contribute to the 'life' of the school.

On behalf of the Social Club we are asking for parent volunteers from each classroom to nominate to be the 'Class Rep' for 2022. You may wish to pair up with someone and do this together, or go solo!  The role of the Class Rep is to ensure the connection with parents in each your child's class and work with the Social Club to plan social and fundraising events.  There is no commitment to regular evening meetings as most communication is online.  If you are interested please contact either:

Jo Hadjistamatis      jomartis@hotmail.com.au

Olivia Triandos         oliviatriandos@gmail.com

or phone Carmel in the office.

LABOUR DAY HOLIDAY

Just a reminder that Monday March 14 is the Labour Day Holiday. I hope that everyone enjoys the long-weekend and to those of you heading away - stay safe!
