Stage 5 IKEA and Lindt Factory Excursion
On 17th February, Stage 5 Design & Technology students travelled to the Marsden Park IKEA store to gather materials and equipment to help us in our Chocoholics topic for our Food unit.
The students had so much fun, going through the many different aisles to find the chosen necessities we had discussed during the lessons leading up to our trip, through to researching the effectiveness of the kitchen utensils. The students also had the opportunity to purchase items for themselves and to indulge in the iconic IKEA Swedish meatballs!
We then travelled across the road to the Lindt Factory, where we were able to look at the different flavour combinations and purchase all the different chocolates. This has assisted us in developing our chocolate tasting palates to assist in our own chocolate block flavour combinations.
Thank you Mr. O’Keeffe for giving the students an amazing day.

Stage 5 Chocolate Melting
This week in Design & Technology, our Stage 5 class travelled to the Junior School with ambitions of conducting trials of chocolate flavours for our upcoming Chocoholics assessment.
This task included experimenting with the new Food Tech items that we purchased on our IKEA excursion (see above). We then went through the procedure of melting the tasty chocolate so they would be able to fill our new choc moulds. We figured out what types and amounts of chocolate we needed to use for the chocolate to be the tastiest. A class survey showed dark and gold caramel was preferred over milk and white.
We then found the ratio between dark and gold was 1/4 gold caramel for 3/4 dark chocolates. Our first food Practical was very successful; the students were able to taste the flavour combinations we discussed in class and experiment in a kitchen environment.
Thank you to the Junior School for letting us use their kitchen!
