Junior School

When you walk around the Junior School campuses, you notice that our children are all engaged. They aren’t necessarily quiet – but that’s because they are active participants in their own learning, and they have lots to say! Over the past week I visited the Stage 2 Coral Sea class, and they were busy exploring sustainability. I read to them an inspiring book about sustainability work undertaken across the globe by children. Already our students are thinking about environmental issues that are important to them.
Mr Carr is leading the Sustainability Prefects and the ‘Eco Warriors’ at Wentworth Falls and they have some important plans for the Junior School. First up is our ‘Clean Up Australia’ campaign, which will hopefully not be another casualty to the rain. Other future projects that the students are excited about include a frog pond, a return and earn system (connected to House points for motivation!) and the continuation of gardening. Our Springwood Campus are also committed to sustainability with Mrs Cuneen’s Gardening Club well underway, and the Springwood chickens are valued members of the community!
The Junior School Captains' team are working towards a project to better equip our students for indoor play, and sustainability is first in their minds! A letter has been sent home this week asking for donations of good quality toys and games that the children can use at school. The leaders will sort these as they arrive at Junior School Reception and organize systems to make these resources available to all of the children at recess and lunch. Our rainy days and the need for indoor play aren’t going away just yet!
Over the last two weeks I have been honoured to present some special awards. Congratulations to:
- Angela Rudduck for achieving her Bronze Award
- Kane Emmerson for achieving his Head of Junior School Award
- Jack Lowe for achieving his Head of Junior School Award
