Performing Arts Matters
Open Day
As we look forward to Open Day on Saturday, I note that COVID-19 has been playing havoc with ensemble attendance. Please remember that students and parents should not feel as if they are letting anyone down if they are unable to attend on Saturday. We want students to stay safe and recover as best they can. We are prepared to “fill gaps” as necessary on the day. To help with this please inform us directly if there are any difficulties in attending your performance on Open Day. We can then plan whatever contingency we can to make sure we are putting our best foot forward as a Performing Arts team and showing our prospective students and parents the quality that we can produce and the great talents of our students. Thanks to everyone for their cooperation in this matter.
85th Anniversary Concert, May 17 at the Concourse
As a weekly update we continue to our preparation of ensembles for this important event. Our Junior School are preparing their items and we have our Finale planned. Tickets will be available from Week 1 next term. This will be a significant experience for our students and trust that you have marked this on your calendars and sent out Save the Dates to family and friends. We are really excited for this concert and we look forward to a great occasion that shows off our students after 2 years in the performance wilderness and build a platform for future success.
Speaking about the future, it was wonderful to have around 20 students at our Junior Chorale rehearsal last week. We were really learning the ropes last week but this week we move to the Sarto for more comfortable surroundings. Students are still nominating to be part of this group and we look forward to having a happy group of vocalists enjoying making music together.
My special mention this week goes to the following students.
- Rufus Ashford, Year 12 for his leadership in the Senior Chorale
- The members of our newest ensemble, The Big Band. This group plays a range of fun, entertaining pieces and will have its first performance this Friday before our Harmony Day assembly.
- Junior Chorale for their great start.
- Cameron Pfeiffer, Year 11 for his support of the Senior Jazz Band as a reserve percussionist.
- Junior Drama Ensemble for their enthusiasm and great attitude.
