Engagement in Classrooms

As a collective, we are currently focusing our practice around the engagement of students in learning and in classrooms as well as building supportive and clear structures for classroom management.

There are several things that have fed into this decision-making process at Woodmans Hill;

  1. A return to full-time and uninterrupted learning programs – returning to learning in 2022, we have taken into account that our students have not had a full term of uninterrupted learning since Term 4 in 2019! Continually shifting from face to face to remote learning and the significant change in learning behaviours as a result, must be considered. Learning stamina and long term engagement in learning is something we need to work back up in our students! Just like athletes train for their events, we must proving training and growth opportunities for our students.
  2. A change to 1 hour learning periods – Moving from 47 minute periods to 1 hour periods has significantly shifted our learning times and what our day looks like. There will be a period of adjustment for both staff and students to this new structure and we want to provide support across the school to ensure that 1 hour periods are utilised in a meaningful way for learning.

As a College, we enlisted the support of expert Glen Pearsall for a full day of professional learning in February and we are currently all trialling new and exciting ways of engaging students in meaningful learning. This will continue to be a focus over the course of the year.

Attendance

There are times when we will need to contact you, including on the day if your child is absent and you haven’t informed the school as to why.

Do we have your most up to date contact details?

If not, please contact the school on 03 5336 7264 or via email on woodmans.hill.sc@education.vic.gov.au so we can update our records.

Please include parent/carers’ name, address, phone numbers, email address and emergency contact details. Please remember to contact the school if any of these details or your circumstances change.

Same-day notification of unexplained student absences

Our school will text or call you as soon as practicable on the day if a student is not at school and you haven’t notified the school as to why. If you are notified by the school that your child is away without a reason, please contact us as soon as possible to let us know where your child is. If we cannot reach you because we don’t have your correct contact details (i.e.: message notification fail, disconnected number), then we will make contact with any emergency contact/s nominated on your child’s file held by the school, where possible, on the same day of the unexplained absence.

To notify us of absence please;

  1. Text on  0498 464 155
  2. Call on 5336 7264
  3. Email on woodmans.hill.sc@education.vic.gov.au
  4. Log an absence on Compass using the app or the desktop site.

Please remember it is your responsibility to contact us to provide an explanation for your child's absence from school, and where possible, please inform us in advance of upcoming absences.

Save this number!

Our school uses 0498 464 155 to contact parents/carers as soon as practical on the day on an unexplained student absence. Save this number 0498 464 155 into your phone so you know it is the school contacting you if you receive a text.
