From the Deputy Principal

Semaphore and the making of memories

There's a saying that goes it's our memories that make us and I know that during their time at school our children make memories to last forever.  To help them remember these special times, we collate our yearbook, the Semaphore.  The Semphore is named after a system of maritime communication based on flag signals and whilst we don't need to use flags to send messages anymore, our Semaphore sends great messages about our sense of community, connectedness, fun and achievement during the year.

Next week, the oldest child at GSG in each family will receive a copy of the Semaphore. Please check in with your child to make sure you receive your family's copy.

Sharing the joy

The start of this term has brought with it so many firsts for the year and, in fact, some firsts for many years.  Our Year Nines are out on camp as I write, and this is their first camp experience in three years as we have worked around COVID.  The Year Twelves I spoke with are very excited about the upcoming Years Ten to Twelve swimming carnival as they haven't yet experienced this event.  We are busy planning for our Year Four Camp and Year Seven Camps next term.  We have music events, trips and tours and even school photos occurring as we have remembered them, from the past.  I started to ponder then, the impact of the interrupted experiences on our young people and am convinced that the return to all these events is supporting them to feel more joyful and connected to each other.

We have also had great feedback from our newly formed Student Council members about how much they are enjoying their new homeroom groups and I have loved watching our Pre-Primary students discovering the school campus and moving about much more than they were able to at this time last year.  We have much to be thankful for.
