Year 11 News

Mr Jacob Dal Nevo

On Thursday the 23rd of February, Year 11 travelled to the Yanco Agricultural Institute to participate in the annual Road Youth Driver Awareness (RYDA) workshop. RYDA provides young people with the skills and strategies they need to stay safe on the roads. Over the course of the day, students attended six interactive sessions which featured highly engaging practical demonstrations, real-life narratives, videos, quizzes and interactive role play.

These sessions showed students how personality impacts risk on the road, the role of mood as a risk factor, the perspective of other road users and their challenges, and key risk areas for young drivers and passengers. In one of the sessions, students were given the unique opportunity to speak to crash survivors about the event that changed their life.

Another session took place on a closed road where students experienced the relationship between speed and stopping distance through practical observation. A third session showed students the role of mood as a road risk factor. Working in teams, they developed strategies to recognise and change harmful mind states and plan ahead to avoid risk. The day was an engaging and valuable experience for our Year 11 students.
