Music Matters

What a fabulous few weeks it’s been! Ensembles, excursions, private tuition lessons, parent meetings – the St Pius X Performing Arts community has really embraced the start of 2023.

Some highlights and upcoming events:

‘OnStage’ excursion – Senior Drama students
PAPA meeting – a very big thank you to the parents who attended Monday night’s AGM, both in person and online. It was lovely to meet parents, both old and new to the school. A new committee has been elected with some exciting plans to support our students in Music and Drama in 2023. Please read our new PAPA President, Mrs Gabe Donlevy’s report below.
Commencement Mass & Academic Assembly – Oxford Falls, Tuesday 21 February. This will feature students from the Senior Concert Band and both Junior and Senior Chorale. A note with detailed information will be emailed home later this week.
‘Encore’ concert - 27 February for Year 11 and 12 Elective Music students - permission notes have been emailed home. Please return.
‘39 Steps’ – Drama production 4 and 6 April, Zenith Theatre. Ms Penny Lindley, our talented and tireless Drama Coordinator and teacher, along with Mrs Emma Fryar, our Assistant Drama Convenor, have been rehearsing with the cast and crew on this wonderful production. Please keep these dates free in your diaries. We will also need assistance in bumping the show in and out, as well as make up etc. Any offers of assistance would be warmly welcomed. All ensembles have commenced, with the exception of the Vocal Ensemble which will be held on Wednesday afternoons from 3.30 pm - 4.30 pm. This is a small, auditioned ensemble which will sing a variety of styles and genres, generally a cappella. Auditions will take place next Wednesday afternoon, 22 February, in Music Room 1 at 3.30 pm. From the PAPA Committee

The PAPA AGM was held Monday and supported by a great community of parents both in person and online. We would like to extend thanks to the outgoing Secretary, Tamar Avakian, for her support and contribution to the PAPA Committee over the 2022 year. PAPA is looking forward to continuing to support the Performing Arts Department through various opportunities, including the purchase of instruments and equipment, performance opportunities, workshops and more.
