My congratulations to all for a positive and smooth start to 2023 at the completion of our first full week of normal timetable. As I move around the College I am pleased to see students and staff engaged in learning activities and enjoying being together in this unique school setting.  New students are working through a series of induction activities to ensure they understand each section's operations and remain safe. They look great in their new uniforms.

Mobile Phones

It is early days, however I have been pleased with the way students have adapted to the mobile phone ban. Staff have not had to deal with students with phones and our student leaders report less distractions through phone notifications.  This doesn’t mean that there will not be students pushing boundaries and we will deal with these as they arise. So far, so good! Parents are asked not to put their child in a difficult position by contacting them during the day unless it is through the front office.

Student Census

Friday 17th February is student census day when we report the numbers of students to the Education Department and this sets the level of our funding for the year. At this stage we have 169 students on our books; 50 Year 10s, 68 Year 11s and 51 Year 12s.

Year 10 Board Representative

The College Board plays an important role in overseeing the College Business Plan and Priorities, reviewing performance data, approving fees and ensuring the finances align to the needs of our students and expectations of the Department. The Board is not involved with day to day school operations, staff management, nor is it an avenue for complaints.

The Board is made up of staff, parent, community and student representatives and meets once each term, normally aligned to collecting students for the end of term or closed weekends. We are seeking nominations for a Year 10 parent representative to join the Board. Please contact me if you are interested or have any questions about the role.

College Survey for our New Families

We are always looking at ways to improve our systems and operations and I routinely seek input from families on a range of topics. This week families of new students were emailed a survey link to collect their opinions about our student selection and induction processes. Your feedback is very important to me and it will be factored in to refining our systems. It is also great to hear where we are doing well so we can reinforce good practice.    I would appreciate you taking the time to give me your opinion. I will close off the survey in around two weeks.

Mural

You may have noticed the evolving mural on one of our sheds which faces Mornington Road. It is fascinating to see this talented artist at work and creating a representation of our College.

One of the great things about our Agricultural College model is that most students can find an area where they can excel because it aligns to a particular form of talent that they hold as a strength. Put another way; everyone is good at something.

Regards to all and have a great weekend
