Faith, Justice and Formation
Year 7 Reflection Days 2023
Next week our Year 7 boys will be involved in a reflection day on either Wednesday 8 March or Thursday 9 March. These reflection days form part of the College’s Formation Vision. Each cohort participates in a Reflection Day every year. The Year 7 Reflection Day is centered around the Touchstone of Inclusive Community and is based on the Scripture passage:
‘Love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honour’ (Romans 12:10).
The program, Who Am I? Who Are We? includes ‘getting to know you’ activities, games, and reflective sessions on where the students are at individually and collectively. The program aims to build community and camaraderie in each Homeroom and across the cohort.
Boys of Year 7 are reminded of the details for this day already communicated by letter to parents/carers.

Acting Director of Identity
Lenten Appeal
Last Wednesday we had our Ash Wednesday liturgies, which signified the commencement of Lent; a time of giving, fasting, sacrifice and prayer. In his reflection, Mr Leslie called us to consider our daily interactions with one another and strive to be the best version of ourselves.
For many years now we have implemented a wide range of Lenten fundraisers to raise funds for charities. This year we continue to raise money for those in need, but our Lenten observance is about more than the money. This year, our Lenten partner will be the Edmund Rice Foundation who work in 10 different countries, with the focus on breaking the cycle of poverty. This enables people to develop skills and knowledge to allow them to improve their lives, and to find a sense of increased self-worth. Our school has increased our connection with the Ruben Centre in Kenya, and SJAG received a visit from the former director of the Ruben Centre- Brother Frank O’Shea. Br O’Shea explained to us the significance of the centre, which focuses on offering an education, health, and financial services to families in the Mukuru community.
With our College theme being, “united in the same mind and the same purpose,” the necessity of supporting Lent is heightened, as it enhances and encourages our motivation to work together to help others to serve those members of our community who are marginalised. Our purpose is to serve others, and to support those less fortunate members of our community. Throughout the next few weeks, we encourage everyone to fulfil your faith values by fundraising, committing and fully participating our Lenten appeal.
