Premiers Reading Challenge

Every year our learners participate in the Premiers Reading Challenge (PRC).

It was introduced in 2004 and is designed to encourage children to enjoy reading and ultimately improve their literacy skills.

It requires our learners to read 12 books from the beginning of the year to early September.

The challenge has begun, and classes are talking about books they are reading or want to read.

In our library, we have a designated PRC board to acknowledge when our learners have completed the challenge. This year it follows the book week theme of ‘New world, old worlds, other worlds’ through the eyes of Dr Suess’ famous quote ‘oh the places you’ll go’. Learners are visiting lots of different places through their reading, it might be fictional or non-fictional.

Foundations, year 1 and 2 classes are completing it as a class. They are reading in their classroom and in the library.

Years 3-6 are completing the challenge individually.

For more information, please visit the SA PRC page.

Confirmation Classes

Confirmation is a wonderful time for young people to grow in their faith and develop their understanding of who they are in Christ. Confirmation classes will begin mid Term 2. These classes will run until the end of 2022, meeting fortnightly in term time. Please let Pastor Greg know if you wish to enrol

State Parliament House Dinner

Our Chair of School Council, Genevieve Freund, and I were privileged to recently attend a dinner hosted by Paula Leuthen MP for local school council chairs and principals at State Parliament House. The evening proved to be a positive way of building connections with other schools in our local area, as well as to meet our Education Minister, John Gardner MP, and to share some of our positive success stories from Golden Grove.

Walk My Way

Members of our Golden Grove Lutheran Community (both school and church in partnership) are taking part in the Walk My Way fundraising challenge in the Barossa Valley on Saturday 1 May.

Walk My Way gives us the chance to join people around Australia in a 26km walking challenge (with 5km and 13km options as well).

The walk recognises the long, dangerous journey refugees must take to find safety - and helps to raise money to help send refugee children to school at the same time!

You can volunteer to participate, or donate, or both via the link below!

Each $26 we raise can support a refugee child in East Africa go to school for a whole year, helping to provide a teacher, textbook, and a table.

The Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS) is the overseas aid and resettlement agency of the Lutheran Church of Australia. ALWS takes our support there through our LWF team (Lutheran World Federation) and the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees).

Mother's Day Stall

A variety of gifts can be purchased for $5 per gift - please register and pay for the number of gifts you require via the Qkr! app or place money in an envelope including your child/children's name, class, and the number of gifts and hand it to the front office by COB Wednesday 5 May.

Option to have your child's name embroidered on hats

There is an opportunity for parents to have their child's name embroidered on their school hat. There is a charge for this and payments can be made via Qkr! At the end of this term, we will export the list of students and give it to the teachers who will collect their hats at home time on the last day of Term 1. These will then be handed back to students on the first day of Term 2. If you decide to take up this offer, please ensure your child's name is clearly marked inside their hat.
