Dickens Room

It was a busy and productive week at kinder for all our classes.

With weeks of preparation leading up to our Mother’s Day celebrations, the children were so excited to share some songs and a pot that they painted and planted with some beautiful bulbs. It was wonderful to be able to have our families on-site to share this special event, the learning that occurs for the children through these moments is so rich and important to developing empathy, kindness, awareness and confidence too.

The three year old's have been enjoying exploring Autumn within the program. We painted using dye and liquid absorbing paper, dropping coloured water onto it and observing and discussion what we noticed.

There has been a lot of exploration this week around art, creativity and meaning. The children are creating with extended meaning, naming and giving voice to their playdough creations, drawings and paintings as well as beginning to engage in dramatic play with each other.

Our Marram class had a busy and exciting week! We took another step into exploring conceptual learning with a big group time around seasons and change. The children found some aspects of this challenging, but enjoyed the flow and learning that occurred nonetheless. Understanding where the class is, particularly post-covid, is an incredibly important part of assessing and planning for each child's development. We reflected and on Thursday, Tegan implemented a group time where the children drew their own leaves, cutting, colouring and sticking them onto a large hand drawn tree. This experience supported the class exactly where they are in their learning journey, extending skills such as following directions and developing fine motor and co-ordination abilities. Tegan has been an incredible support and asset to the learning of each child over the past four weeks and we will miss her when she leaves on Friday.

We visited the garden, exploring the change is season hands on, collecting the most incredible leaves and getting lost under the canopy of falling autumn colour. We are looking forward to another fantastic week, busy as always, but full of opportunities and connection.

We hope that all the mum’s/ special friends had a wonderful and relaxing Sunday. We certainly enjoyed the build up to it, with; some baking, threading for bracelets, making a picture and describing our mum’s / special friends and making choices about which songs to sing. This has afforded the children to; engage in a lot of fine motor experiences, develop pre-writing and pre-reading skills, experiment with cause and effect, trial and error and motion as well as work together collaboratively and contribute to group discussions and decisions. Thank you to our Gawarn’s group class rep, Justine, for helping to run the gift stall – the children were very excited to be able to go shopping for a present. The children did really well to perform a little concert and we are really proud of them. This was a big ask for their first time performing in front of a group and it was also our first time having a group in such a long while. We enjoyed every part of the process and hope you all enjoyed your Sunday.

Other news – we have made potions in the mud patch, volcanoes galore in the sandpit, watched some rocket launches to the moon in the small moon play space and engaged in some dinosaur play. We have also been learning about fruits in the Chinese language program which has extended to setting up the home corner with a lot of good foods and some sometimes foods. This enables us to extend on conversations around nutrition and healthy lifestyles.

We have our kinder photos this week; Gawarn group on Tuesday and Budja group on Wednesday. We also have our first buddies session on Thursday 9.30 – 10.30am.

Have a fantastic week.
