Selamat siang, semuanya!
We've had a brilliant few weeks in Indonesian!
In Foundation, students have been adding to their song collection, asking the question "Apa kabar?" or "How are you?" This is a wonderful song which all students learn early on, as it reinforces their knowledge of greetings and farewells. You could ask your child to help you sing the words and recall what each word means.
To the tune of "Frère Jacques" the words go:
Selamat siang, selamat siang
Apa kabar? Apa kabar?
Baik-baik saja, baik-baik saja
Sampai jumpa, sampai jumpa.
In 1/2, students have been engaged in moving, singing and acting different types of transport. It's been a popular topic, as this is a highly-requested topic from our students themselves! A wonderful way to engage with this at home is on the way home to ask if they can name the different types of transport they see - mobil, bis, kereta api, truk or even a pesawat terbang!
In 3/4, students have been practicing their comprehension when reading and writing about houses in Indonesian. They have learnt a variety of sentence structures describing what rooms are in each house. We've had lots of interesting discussions about what we notice is a cultural difference between our houses and Indonesian houses - making some text to world connections about kamar mandi (bathrooms) in particular!
In 5/6, we've been working really hard to up-level their bargaining skills! Students are learning lots of phrases which can be put to the test in Indonesia to achieve the best-possible price (as soon as we're allowed back!). Our maths skills have come in handy, as we've had to do lots of converting of Indonesian Rupiah to Australian dollars!
Have a wonderful week!
Sampai nanti,
Bu Marissa Mundy
