Principal's Message

Term 2 Week 4

Whole School Cross Country

We were fortunate that the weather held and we were able to hold our School Cross Country event. Huge thanks to Mrs Butterworth for her organisation and to our amazing parents who stood out on the course for our Senior students. We had enough parents helpers that meant we could ensure lots of directions and encouragement along the way. Thank you to Mr O'Connor and Mr Shaw for riding the course for extra support. I heard all about what a highlight the event was for the Junior students at their assembly .

Spotlight on EAL

The English as an Additional Language (EAL) curriculum is central to the learning and development of all young Australians for whom English is not their home language. Through learning EAL, students build their capacity to communicate confidently and effectively. To make progress and to achieve the same level of educational success as other students they must develop literacy in English by:

  • learning to speak English
  • learning to read and write English
  • continuing their learning in all learning areas through English, at the same time as they are learning English, and
  • learning about the Australian school system.

EAL students start at different entry points on Pathways A, B and C, depending on their different stages of learning in English and their previous knowledge, education, settlement and home language/s experiences.

There are three pathways in the Victorian Curriculum Foundation to Year 10 EAL:

  • Pathway A (Years F –2)
  • Pathway B (Years 2 – 8)
  • Pathway C (Years 7 – 10)

Pathway A contains two levels: A1 and A2.

Pathway B contains four levels: BL, B1, B2 and B3.

The EAL curriculum has been developed for all EAL students who require support with their English-language learning.

On the student’s semester report the Pathway and Level indicates their proficiency in the relevant mode (Reading, Writing and Speaking and Listening).

As EAL students move through the EAL Pathways, the English Curriculum achievement standards are likely to become more appropriate for describing their English-language learning. When the learning of EAL students starts to approximate the levels of the English standards of their peers, the English standards will be used instead of the EAL standards.

Auskick Clinics

Mrs Butterworth has also organised AFL clinics through Nunawading Auskick to come in and work with the Junior students and we have Melbourne Victory coming to run soccer clinics for the senior students. It is really valuable to have good role models and experts in their field come in to work with students. I know the students appreciate the work Mrs Butterworth puts in to get these clinics organised.

Annual Report 2020

MPRPS has published our annual report for 2020. It is available on the school website and via the link below.

The Annual Report to the School Community (Annual Report) provides principals and school councils with an opportunity to share the year’s achievements and progress with the school community. This includes reflecting on the school’s performance and explaining the positive impact of school improvement efforts on student outcomes.

High School Transition

High School Transition documentation is due this Friday, May the 14th. It is a requirement that all students return High School documentation regardless of whether they’re attending a Government or Independent High School in 2022. For more information or assistance with filling out the forms, please contact Matt O’Hern.

Mother's Day Stall

Last Friday all students had the opportunity to attend the Mother’s Day Stall. It was wonderful to be able to hold this event this year and to have so many parent helpers back on-site. The excitement of purchasing Mum a gift was evident on the faces of all our students. We were especially impressed with our students wonderful manners when purchasing their gift. A big thank you to Flip and all of the parent helpers for making this event possible. We hope that all of the Mum’s were spoilt over the weekend and enjoyed their presents.
