During Term 1 Junior students have been participating in the ELLA (Early Learning Languages Australia) Program to learn Italian.

This term they have focusing on ELLA App 6 “The Playground”.

This App focuses on action words. The students have played lots of games which assisted them in learning new words.

SENIOR ITALIAN

During Term 1 Senior students have been focusing on functional everyday language using the Speak Up Program. This is where students learn the words together with gestures. Using specific gestures which each word assists them in remembering the word and using it in context.

The students have reflected on words they already know and words they still need to learn using a traffic light self assessment tool. Verde (green) “I know the meaning of the word and I can use it in a sentence, Giallo (yellow) “I know the meaning of the word” and rosso (red) ‘I’ve heard it or haven’t heard it and I don’t know what it means”.

The students have been encouraged to use the language at home. Some easy ones you can encourage your children to use at home are

BUONGIORNO (good morning)

ARRIVEDERCI (goodbye)

PER FAVORE (please)

GRAZIE (thankyou)

PREGO (you’re welcome)

We have been lucky enough to once again have received a sporting schools grant for next term. We are in the process of organising football clinics for the Juniors. Once dates have been confirmed we will notify parents via Operoo. We hope the Juniors will enjoy the football clinics as much as they did the basketball clinics.

We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday. We hope that you spend time as a family over the Easter period. We look forward to seeing you refreshed in Term 2.
