Reading Strategies in MR

This week the Juniors in Unit MR have been focusing on developing their understanding of different reading strategies. We have been exploring several different strategies each day to support us as readers. These include reading strategies such as ‘Eagle Eye’ - were we use the picture and the beginning letter of the sound to decode a tricky word, ‘Tryin Lion’ - were we try to re-read the sentence and think what makes sense or ‘Chunky Monkey’ - were we break the word into chunks that we already know. During our independent reading time each we have been checking off what strategies we have been using as we read on our own checklist in our reading response books. Using a checklist and having the reading strategies in front of us whilst we read supports us to actively think and use the strategies when we need.
