Principal's Message

Hannah

It's so nice to see you!

From 6.00pm tonight, Victoria’s COVID-19 restrictions will ease to the most relaxed they have been in over twelve months. At this stage, there won’t be any changes to how schools are operating, as we have already been allowed to ease our restrictions significantly - however we will wait for more guidance by the Department of Education.

Families are welcome to come onto school grounds at any time. Following state regulations, people over 12 years old should carry a mask at all times, though we do not require people to wear them. We encourage parents and carers to ‘check in’ via the QR codes on display around the school, and socially distance where possible (including hand hygiene). We acknowledge that, while some community members are rushing back to be on our grounds,  it will take some community members a little time before they feel comfortable re-engaging with the broader community and the school and sub-committees have been planning events to support ‘gentle’ re-introductions.

Today we celebrated our students through ME: My Exhibition, which was a fantastic series of performances and experiences including an Acknowledgement of Country by Maddie Broadhurst, a smoking ceremony with Uncle Trevor, performances from each of our year levels, who have been learning circus and performance skills with our Creative Workers this term as well as our Wominjeka picnic and a glorious farewell to the external toilet block.

Last week we had our student cross-country with family volunteer helpers and next week a few of our year levels are holding celebrations of their learning this term, with ‘open afternoons’ where families are invited to see inquiry projects and student learning/performances.

Next term you will see some old favourites returning to our social calendar, including but not limited to trivia night, our whole school sports day and  the return of our much loved plant and produce markets!

If you have any questions about how the school is supporting safety and wellbeing of our community during these events, please do not hesitate to contact the school or the organisers of each event to discuss our safety plan.

A generous donation <3

Earlier this week, one of our grade 4 students made a very generous donation to the Trevor Bowen Fund. This student makes a habit of saving a portion of his pocket money in a jar, then gives it to people in need. The Trevor Bowen Fund was formed in honour of Trevor, our previous principal, as he retired from his role in 2017. Money donated to this fund is used to support BNW families in need to pay for their child to attend camps and excursions. It is so moving to see such altruism in someone so young and it’s wonderful to see that his generosity can benefit one of his schoolmates who may not otherwise be able to attend our camps. Thank you!

If you would like to make a donation to the Library Fund (donations over $2 are tax deductible) or to the Trevor Bowen Fund, please make contact with the front office.
