Justin Brereton attended St Virgil’s College from 1989-94. Upon leaving the College he attended UTas, gaining a Bachelor of Laws.
During his Utas days Justin played with the Clarence senior football team and was a member of its 1996 and 1997 premiership teams along with other Old Virgilians – Jeremy Sharpen, Matthew Jones, Jarrod Read and Nick Davey.
Justin moved to Melbourne and became a senior lawyer for the Australian Securities and Investment Commission from 2001-2005. During this period he commenced a Master of Laws at the University of Melbourne, completing the qualification in 2008. Since 2005 he has been a Barrister at the Victorian Bar where he acts in a range of commercial, administrative and regulatory matters. He is also a non-executive Company Director in the financial services and not for profit (sports administration) sectors.
Justin regularly appears in Royal Commissions, inquiries, commercial fraud, directors’ duties and class actions litigation. Justin is also often briefed to act for Government agencies and insurers in class actions and inquiries which may result in class actions.
During his time in Melbourne, Justin was highly appreciative of the mentoring he received from the recently deceased OV the Hon. Peter Heerey AM QC.
