Deputy Principals' Report

In this together

Welcome back..

It has been great to see so many smiles on the kids' faces after returning from holidays. We have hit the ground running with swimming for our juniors and a load of sporting events for our senior kids. These extra physical activities can take a bit more of a toll on our little ones, which can result in more meltdowns at the end of the day. Please keep this in mind and reach out to us if we can help manage this with you.

Our Wellbeing Leaders have shared a Wellbeing campaign, Mindful in May. This is a message for not only our kids, but our parents and community as well. The aim is to take 10 minutes a day to be mindful, a walk, a mediation, time to stop and take notice of ourselves. It is also about giving back to others. Checking in, helping out or even just being available to other people. Please take a look at the website here to find out more.

We are currently looking at starting some social skills sessions with kids that might benefit from this and who would like to join. Stay tuned for more information on that soon. If this is something you would like to know more about or you think your child might benefit from being a part of please get in touch.

The Year 4's also have Bike Education coming up followed by their bike camp. This may bring up some anxiety for kids that are not confident with riding or they if they feel anxious about being away from home. This is all pretty normal and the best thing to do it to talk it through with your child. Help prepare them by looking at the venue, getting a lot of bike riding in at home to build their confidence and get in touch with us if it is all becoming too much. Camp is a great opportunity for the kids and teachers to connect in a different environment, pushing them out of their comfort zone and supporting them to form new friendships. Given the fact that they almost missed their camp experience last year due to COVID they may be feeling a bit more nervous than usual. Again, let us know and we can help support you with any of this.

Thank you for all your continued support and we look forward to continuing to work together with you to sustain the great community we are a part of.

Learning Diversity Update

Students that require extra learning support may qualify for NCCD funding. If you would like to know more information about this please click here.

We are lucky enough to have LSOs working in all grade levels at our school.  We offer support for all of our students in a variety of ways including small group, one on one support, maths and literacy intervention and extension maths support. St Finbar's also supports outside agencies that wish to come onsite to work with students during school time. Please get in touch with us if this is something you are interested in and we can step you through our protocols with this.
