From the Archives

We were pleased to be able to help Anna Kennedy (Tehan 1961) who was enquiring about photos from her sporting days at  Sacré Cœur. Anna was of great assistance in identifying the students pictured.

She remembers that...

Netball and choir were my two fondest memories. In my last two years we played more than 20 games a season. We created history by playing practise matches against non-catholic schools like Korowa and MLC. These matches were arranged by our coach, Moya. A big advance in ecumenism! How times have changed.

The photos bring back so many memories. Sister Hill should take all the credit for our great success at netball in 1960 and 1961. In 1959 she sent Bernadette O’Halloran and me to a meeting at St Aloysius, North Melbourne, where the nun in charge of sport proposed a netball competition consisting of 16 Catholic schools. We were to have a top 4 finish with finals. It was wonderful, especially as we won the Grand Final in both those years. Both were against Genazzano. Some of the Gen girls remained great friends of mine from that time. We had a wonderful rivalry. Sister Hill was unable to watch the finals, so we had to find a public phone to let her know the result. Her enthusiasm and dedication gave us a great will to win. I’ve never forgotten how supportive she was.

Can you please help to add to our archive collection?

We are always appreciative when alumnae are able to donate or loan precious items to the school for the archives collection.

We would especially love to receive some more photos and memorabilia from the 1970s.
