We continue our series of student-led messages from our Middle and Senior Years Chapels.
Year 9 Worship Leader, Zac Wickson, wrote and presented this message for a Middle Years Chapel recently.
Special thanks to Zac for sharing his message with us.
I wonder if you recognize the object in this picture.
It’s the leap of faith at The Summit in Victoria – a camp our Year 8 classes enjoyed earlier this year. Participants climb up a pole and stand on the edge of a platform. They then attempt to jump off and reach a trapeze bar suspended in front of them. Once they grab it they can hang upside down by their knees before straightening their legs and being lowered to the ground.
I am showing you this picture because taking the leap of faith challenge means getting out of your comfort zone. Did you know that getting out of your comfort zone is easier than you think? God puts wonderful opportunities in front of us each and every day. These opportunities challenge us out of our comfort zone.
I daresay the biggest obstacle preventing some of us from taking up these opportunities is fear of failure. Fear of failure is when we allow our fears to stop us from moving forward and give new things a try. If that’s you, the Bible offers some helpful encouragement: Remember that I commanded you to be strong and brave. So don’t be afraid. The Lord your God will be with you everywhere you go (Joshua 1:9).
This Bible verse encourages us to be strong and brave and to put our faith in God.
In the leap of faith at The Summit you need to be strapped into a harness so you can be protected. The harness and the ropes attached to it keep you from falling. When we put our faith in God, God protects us in the opportunities we take. God is like our safety harness, protecting us in everything you do. The Bible puts it this way: God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them (Romans 8:28). God can even make bad things turn out for good.
God has promised to protect you in everything that you do. So take every opportunity you can because you don’t want to be sitting there later saying “If only I did this!”
