Head of Middle Years

Mr Steven Tkaczuk

There has been much to celebrate across the Middle Years over the last fortnight. Students continue to be immersed in diverse learning opportunities aimed at extending academic success, whilst developing attributes and qualities reflective of the IB MYP Learner Profiles.

These Learner Profiles marry well with our Middle Years Philosophy of developing life-long learners who are compassionate, active individuals. We strive to guide our students into being contributors within and beyond our College community by encouraging, teaching and providing opportunities for them to develop skills in becoming:

Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-Minded, Caring, Risk Takers, Balanced & Reflective

Middle Years schooling at GNLC is a place where students become independent learners through a curriculum that is both challenging and rewarding, as well as vibrant and energetic. Teachers strive to create a safe environment that allows for relevant and thought-provoking discussions that provide opportunities for students to become critical thinkers. Through engaging and interactive curriculum and pedagogy, our students strive to become responsible global citizens and authentic leaders.

Division Cross Country

We had a number of students from Middle Years and Junior Years who represented themselves and our College with pride and fantastic sportsmanship at the recent Years 3 - 6 Wyndham Division Cross Country event. These students included Derek, Noah, Anusha, Shanvi, Dunitha, Senitha, Agamjot, Tahnee and Arielle. Congratulations to each of them for making it to this stage!

The competition on the day was very tough with approximately 50 students from each age group competing. Derek, Noah, Tahnee and Arielle made it through to the next round of competition which will be held soon. All of our other runners narrowly missed out on obtaining a place to compete in the regionals!

We will also provide you with an update of our older Middle Years competitors  who will compete in the upcoming Years 7 -12 Wyndham Division Cross Country event. Stay tuned!

Year 8 Interschool Soccer Competition

On the morning of Tuesday 25 May, 14 Year 8 boys met at the school flag pole excited and keen about the day ahead. Waved off by the Principal and the Head of Middle Years, the boys boarded the bus to Saltwater Reserve in Point Cook. On arrival, students were greeted by four other schools raring to compete on a glorious autumn day.

Mr Meyerhoff, assisted by one of our Middle Years Sports Ambassadors, Tyson Falzon, got the boys warmed up ready for the challenging games ahead. The competition was tough with the boys narrowly losing, however, they put in 100% effort into a very packed schedule. All the boys involved had a great experience and represented the College with pride.

Well done to all of those involved.

Mr Meyerhoff
