Head of Senior Years
Mrs Christine Taylor
The past few weeks have presented some of life’s greatest challenges to our students and I would like to say how very proud we are of them all. The resilience and maturity they have displayed during a time of grief, at the passing of Bless Mulukwat Akoch, has been heartwarming. All have acknowledged that grief is an individual process and have met the needs of each other, as they journey through the process.
The Pastoral Care programme, will continue to support students with wellbeing and resilience activities.
As mentioned in the Deputy Principal's report, the Year 10, 11 and 12 students attended the WRICA Careers Expo on Friday 21 May. It was a wonderful experience for students, especially since the event was cancelled due to COVID-19 last year. Students liaised with representatives from Universities, TAFE, Victoria Police and the Australian Defence Force. Many students took the opportunity to gather course guides, pens and other wonderful marketing objects. This was an excellent experience for students to either begin planning their pathway after school, or discover some alternatives, that they had not yet considered. All were excited by this excursion and it certainly generated some important conversations.
Year 10 students are still working through their Morrisby/subject selection meetings. It has been wonderful to talk to the students and help them plan their futures and prepare for VCE subject selection in June/July.
The Victorian Association for the Teachers English (VATE) are once again running a creative writing competition. This year the title is, 'Stories That Change'. Having had a year of continual change, we all have stories to tell. Further details are available on SEQTA notices for students. So get writing!
The 2021 RED X Racing squad have begun spin training for this year's races. With a strong attendance at the Spin classes at Aquapulse, students and staff train in a very encouraging atmosphere under the guidance of GNLC and RED X Racing Alumni,
Jack Coles. This year, we welcome many new Year 6 and 7 students to the team, and also welcome back some dedicated Middle and Senior Years RED X Racing challengers.
God’s blessings
