AUSTRALIA’S MOST POPULAR BOOKS
The annual Civica Index for 2021 has reviewed more than 30 million library book loans across Australia to help determine the country’s most popular books.
The top of this year’s list is The Survivors by Jane Harper.
The most popular young adult fiction on the 2021 Index:
1. Robin Hood: piracy, paintballs & zebras (2020)
2. One of us is next (2020)
3. Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets (1998)
4. Wonder (2013)
5. Catching fire (2009)
6. We were liars (2014)
7. Five feet apart (2018)
8. The hate u give (2017)
9. Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban (2010)
10. The tattooist of Auschwitz (2018)
Australian’s sought escapist fiction with almost half of this year’s top 20 most borrowed books listed as mysteries and thrillers in Civica’s 2021 Libraries Index.
Almost two-thirds (65 per cent) of the top 20 borrowed books authored by Australians. This is up from 60 per cent in 2020 and 40 per cent in 2019.

This year’s National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June) theme is “More than a word. Reconciliation takes action”
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
