Principal's Report

What’s happening in our classrooms

Sport FriYay got off to a great start last week with all students in Years 1 – 6 engaging in Learning Level Sport with PE teacher Noreen McMennaman and their classroom teachers.

Further, Croydon Hills Primary School is proudly an Active School that encourages physical activity through a whole school approach that goes beyond traditional physical education and sport to promote physical activity at every opportunity.

All the best, Liam

Tomorrow is Liam Sommers’ last day before he heads off to his placement at Camelot Rise Primary School as a part of his Bastow Principal Preparation course. This placement was originally booked for last year however, due to visitor restrictions, it was put on hold. Liam will return on Monday 29th March.  Experienced Croydon Hills teacher, Lesley Wilson will take MLS for the six week period.  Shane Holloway will take over Liam’s leadership responsibilities.

School Carparks

As a part of our Traffic Management Plan, our school carparks are closed to general traffic between 8:45 – 9:00am and 3:30 – 3:45pm.  The northern carpark is also ‘Staff Only’, please refrain from entering that carpark at all times.

Thank you for supporting the safe movement of our students in and out of the school.

Join one of our Parent Groups and contribute to the life of our great school!

Croydon Hills Primary School has the most amazing home–school partnership with parents’ and carers’ contributions a highly valued feature of the school.

I encourage our families to actively involve themselves in one of our formal parent groups:

CHAPS – Croydon Hills Association of Parents is the formal parent group of the school. CHAPS do the most wonderful job connecting the school and our families. Their role in the school ranges from supporting communications via their Facebook page, facilitating community events like the school disco, Colour Run and Trivia Night, and fundraising through raffles, Mothers' and Fathers' Day stalls and event days. CHAPS meet monthly with their next meeting on Monday 22nd February at 7pm in the Staffroom.

MOTHS – Men of The Hills is a parent and carer group that supports the involvement of male role-models in our school.  Like CHAPS, MOTHS runs events, fundraisers and connects the parent group to the school.  Highlights of the MOTHS year include the Mini Golf Night, Camp Out (on the school oval) and the occasional ‘Dad’s night’.  MOTHS is affiliated with The Fathering Project.  MOTHS also meets monthly, with their next meeting on Tuesday 23rd February at 7pm in the Staffroom. Their first event is a Pizza and Paper Plane night, beginning at 6pm on Friday 26th February on the school oval.

School Council – as shared last week, School Council is the formal governing body of the school. Next week I will be calling for nominees to fill vacancies on our School Council.  School Council meets on the third Monday of each month at 7:30pm.  Please visit the School Council page of this newsletter, for a message from School Council President, Sian Jamison.

Facilities and the Learning Environment - Update

Each year the school embarks on enhancements and maintenance to our school facilities and the learning environment.

This week the facilities team have completed the installation of new screens in thirteen classrooms – all teaching spaces now have a new large TV or projector.  Further, the Middle School Playground has a new shade sail, four classrooms have had new furniture installed and The Hill portable has been renovated.

Over the coming semester the school will continue to enhance our school facilities with the following projects scheduled:

  • MVU & MLS reinstatement following the fire.
  • Transitioning the school from fluorescent lights to LED (fire prevention).
  • Block D Enhancements: MFP, MBW and the Indonesian, Science and Digital Technology Rooms - carpet/flooring and furniture.
  • 6 Basketball/Netball tower and ring replacements
  • Line Marking of carparks
  • Asphalt walkway between Kim’s Shed, PJT, PRT and the Gate 4 Path
  • Synthetic Grass in Gaga Pit - this semester.
  • Farm rejuvenation

Collectively, these endeavours will continue to provide our school community with a learning environment that engages our community and enhances school pride.
