Learning Culture Statements
Dear Families,
One of the important parts of starting each school year is developing a shared vision amongst staff and students regarding the learning culture of each classroom. These statements aim to develop an atmosphere of mutual respect amongst all members of the learning community, demonstrating that teaching and learning are valued; achievements and successes are celebrated, and ongoing collaboration is the norm. Woven into these statements are our school values and fundamental beliefs about what makes a positive learning environment.
Below I have shared a few of the Learning Culture Statements from various classes.
These statements are also displayed in each classroom as a reference point for the times someone may need to be reminded of their responsibility in building a positive learning environment for all.
SRC Meetings
The SRC has already met twice this term to discuss issues important to our students and also to share ideas about improvements that could be made across the school.
Already the SRC are eager to hold a Harmony Week in March which will culminate in a Harmony Day fair. The SRC will be meeting again next week on Thursday to plan for this event and to consider what may need to be communicated to staff and the student community. Classes have been asked to come up with four ideas for stalls that could be run on the day of the fair in preparation for the meeting next week.
Other ideas which have come from the SRC include improvements to the outdoor playing space for all students, adding more art works to the playground, updating the playground equipment, including more natural shade / shade options outside and providing access to the library during lunchtime as a passive play option. Some of these ideas require more planning or time to bring to fruition but happily there are a few 'quick wins' we can action. On Tuesday and Friday next week we will trial opening the library to students during lunch break as an option for those students who choose to come in. I will also be working with some members of the SRC so that we can establish some expectations for the use of this space during lunchtimes.
I look forward to sharing more from the SRC in the coming weeks and want to thank these students for their time, energy and investment in being a voice for their peers.
best wishes,
