From the Deputy

Assessment for Learning

Dear Families,

Student learning is at the heart of our work here at St. Anthony's and all staff are committed to achieving the best outcomes for every student in our care.  Term One provides us with the opportunity to not only develop strong relationships between teachers and students, it also allows us to understand the individual academic needs of each student.

This term, teachers have been released from classroom teaching to conduct assessments with your child.  For all students this includes assessing their skills in reading, writing, spelling, phonics and core areas of mathematics.  Our Junior students also complete an oral language assessment to measure their verbal skills.

We then analyse this data, and triangulate this with our knowledge of each student, to determine their learning needs and areas which may be a priority.  We also use this data to identify students that may benefit from intervention or additional explicit teaching via the Government's Tutor Learning Initiative.  This program is in place to support students across all Victorian schools who may have missed out on learning due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Our aim is to maintain close communication between school and families regarding all aspects of your child's learning.  Should you have questions about your child's progress or any other aspects of their education, I encourage you to contact their teacher to make a time to speak further.

with best wishes,

Peta Overbury
