Community and Connecting: Uniform Working Group

Can we make our uniform better?

Six years ago, the current Northcote High School uniform was designed with and by students, staff and parents. Our uniform is an important part of communicating community membership, school pride and belonging, and also plays a role in facilitating student safety and supervision both on and out of school grounds.

We periodically review items of uniform to ensure that their design still serves the needs of our school community. During Term 3, we will be conducting one such review, to explore if there are potential refinements which can be made to the uniform for 2018. There will be opportunities for  students, staff and parents to have input in to this process through range of consultative methods.

Are you interested in being on the Working Group?

To  assist this, we are forming a Uniform Working Group. The role of the group will be to plan for the community consultation, to consider the feedback provided and to draft recommendations for School Council based on this feedback.  Membership of the Working Group will involve approximately 3-4 evening meetings between June 20 - August 31, and possibly additional time engaged in the community consultation.

The Working Group will be convened by Assistant Principal Ciar Foster, and will ideally be composed of:

  • at least one parent member of School Council
  • 2 student representatives (preference will be given to students in Years 7-10)
  • 1 staff representative
  • 1-2 parent/carer representatives (extra to School Council members)

We are particularly seeking parents with knowledge or expertise in textiles/design/school uniforms or in survey and consultation design and management.

If this sounds like you, and you would like to be part of guiding this process, please submit your expression of interest by emailing Ciar Foster (foster.ciar.c@edumail.vic.gov.au) by Tuesday June 13. Parents/carers, please include your child's year level and any relevant experience/interests that you would bring to the group.
