Technology and STEM

@ St Louis

Firstly, we'd like to say a huge thank you to those families who have contacted Thomson regarding the possibility of working with the students in STEM throughout the year. It's wonderful to see all of the expertise and skill that lives within our school community. He is currently compiling a list of people and areas of expertise and will be in contact with each individual soon.

If you would like to come along and work in partnership with our year 5 or 6 students during our STEM learning, please feel free to continue to contact Thomson at twood@stlouisaspendale.com

Year 6

This week the year 6s began to explore using Google Sites to collaborate in designing a website that showcased one of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. It was great to see their creativity and digital skills come to the fore and we look forward to seeing how far they are able to develop their initial ideas.

Year 5

After realising last week that one of our problems in the garden right now is too many birds eating seeds and other fruits, the year 5s began to explore a digital technology called 'Micro:bit'. They all managed to build a code that would allow them to use this tool as a way to automatically count bird types that arrive in our garden space. Some students even added sound to their code. It was great to see their critical thinking and problem-solving skills in action.

For their next session, we ask that year 5 and 6 students download the following app onto their iPads, Micro:Bit
