Term 3

Feature News: Indonesian

Selamat siang, semua!

As mentioned in last week's newsletter - this is a very exciting time in Indonesian! We are speeding closer to Indonesian Day! Thursday July 29th (week 3) is a day where the whole school comes together to celebrate learning Indonesian language and culture! We ask students to dress up in red and white or traditional clothes (batik, sarongs, etc) and classes participate in a variety of games, crafts and activities throughout the day.

Teachers will be using their Indonesian titles for the day, for example "Bu Honan, Bu Walker, Bu Tossell" and "Pak Burrill, Pak O'Connor, Pak Jenkins" and practicing their own greetings and language skills.

This term has started with a lot of storytelling! Across the senior school, students are learning about folktales and will be practicing their translating skills. As chosen by students in 1/2J, students in 1/2 are learning about animals and heard the story of "Go to Sleep, Gecko!" introducing them to a number of native Indonesian animals. Students in Foundation this week hopped, skipped and jumped their way through the Indonesian numbers!
