Curriculum

During our first week of Term 3, we celebrated NAIDOC week by learning more about Aboriginal and Torres Islander peoples and perspectives. We shared beautiful stories written and illustrated by First Nations Peoples and used these texts to search for our Magic 100 Words. We know that it is important to learn these words because they are in LOTS of the books we enjoy reading. It was very exciting to learn that an agreement has been made with the help of the Victorian Aboriginal Heritage Council, recognising the traditional land of MPRPS as Wurundjeri Country. Students learned that Country is not only the land we live on, but the animals, sky, water, spirits and people too. We shared what we love about Wurundjeri Country as a poster using water colour paints. Students wrote a sentence to match their poster focusing on their writing goals including, sitting their letters on the line, and sounding out new words.

In Maths, we continued building on our understanding of place value by counting to lots of different numbers and exploring two-digit numbers. Students used concrete materials to make numbers. They used icy poles sticks in bundles of ten to represent the tens and loose icy pole sticks to represent the ones! This can be challenging so we will keep practising this throughout the semester. We changed things up when we played against our partners this week to find the smallest number instead of the largest!

FJ had so much fun in the Cafe Studio for their first cooking class, as a part of the Kitchen Garden Program. Check out what they made!! FD and FH are looking forward to cooking with Bu Mundy this term, first up on the menu... Fairy Bread! Terima kasih Bu Mundy!

As you might already know, we have been keeping track of the days we spend learning in Foundation until we make it to 100 days. The students have realised that this is getting very close and have even begun counting down the days until the big 100!! We will be sending out some information about this celebration and have our fingers crossed that we will be onsite at school next Wednesday July 28th on our 100th Day of Foundation! As a part of our celebrations, we would love for students to dress up. In the spirit of our special day, students may like to dress up as a 100 year old person or embrace the number 100 in another way, perhaps with a T-shirt decorated in the number 100 or with 100 sequins!

Thank you families for your flexibility and understanding coming into our snap lockdown and remote learning. Despite these tough times, we are grateful to have your support and the help of technology, to connect with each other through Google Meet and Seesaw.

Pupil of the Week

FD: Chloe L -

For working hard in writing this week. It was great to see you using your perseverance to write a sentence when you wrote about why you love Wurundjeri Country. Super work Chloe!

FH: Eshaan S -

Demonstrating a love of learning during maths by using icy pole sticks to make lots of different two-digit numbers as tens and ones. You also worked well with others when playing the games by helping them read and make their numbers! Super work Eshaan.

FJ: Sabrina R -

For demonstrating a love of learning in Maths when using concrete materials such as icy pole sticks to create two digit numbers. You challenged yourself to use bundles of tens and single icy pole sticks to represent the tens and ones in a two digit number. Excellent work Sabrina!
