Independence Centre

Curriculum

Selamat siang!

Welcome back for a very exciting Term 3! We hope that everyone had a relaxing break, we are so excited to see everyone back at school and are looking forward to the term ahead! Diving straight into swimming last week, the 3/4 teachers were so impressed with the independence and responsibility students displayed when travelling to and from the pool each day.

In Literacy sessions across the week, students created a persuasive brochure about one of their favourite holiday activities. It was wonderful to see persuasive devices such as rhetorical questions and alliteration be used to help convince readers to visit each holiday attraction. Students also reflected on their learning so far to create new learning goals for the term. A particular focus has been ensuring each goal has specific strategies to help us achieve success.

In Maths sessions, we have been consolidating our understanding of perimeter and area, working through some problems solving challenges each day. Students calculated and compared the dimensions of shapes that had the same area or perimeter, using correct units of measurement. We have had a focus on Growth Mindset, looking at how mistakes help us to learn. Well done to everyone for tackling these challenges with bravery and perseverance!

This term, our Guided Inquiry topic is ‘Someone Else’s Shoes’. We have begun to explore social justice and throughout the coming weeks students will learn about the ways we can respect each other's differences in everyday life.

Wishing you a lovely week,

Mr Dix, Miss Gasowski, Mrs McCoy, Miss Molloy, Mr O’Connor and Miss Richardson :)
