What's Happening at Northern Bay College
Blue Edge Program
Just before lockdown our Blue Edge program hosted Tom from Vicpol Air Wing who gave an insight on how the Airwing operates and some of the challenges they confront on a daily basis.
Our whole college and community were blown away (literally!) to experience a once in a lifetime close-up of the police chopper hovering above us before it went into its daily activities. The students have been privileged with so many great opportunities provided by the Vic Police.
Harmony Week
Refugee week is celebrated every year to celebrate the achievements of Refugee’s and the contributions they make to our society. The Refugee journey is a very difficult one and it is important to note everyone’s journey is different.
This year the Refugee week theme is Unity. It is about coming together and being united in each others company after the year we have endured with COVID and even now the disruption are still with us. It is important to remember those who live in terrible situations overseas COVID has been so much worse for those less fortunate than us who live in Australia.
In 2020 there were estimated to be 82.4 million people forcibly displaced this is a record amount of people who can no longer live where they want to due to conflict and persecution. In 2020 only 34,400 people were resettled in a safe country due to borders being closed across the world due to COVID 19.
Northern Bay College have over 400 students attending the College from a Refugee background and we are proud to welcome each and every one of them and their family to the Northern Bay College Community.
At Northern Bay College Early Learning Centre we join the whole world to honour refugees as we celebrate the WORLD REFUGEE DAY that falls on the 20 June every year. This day is designated by the United Nations to celebrate the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country. We spend a week for this occasion to show our empathy and understanding and to recognise their bravery and resilience in rebuilding their lives while away from their home country and living in a foreign land which now they call HOME. We continue to incorporate meaningful activities through our programs to always remind us of our support and love for them.
Here is a little glimpse of how we celebrated
