Inquiry Centre

Curriculum

Wow! What a week that was! Remote learning, back to school, parent teacher interviews, Indonesian Day and mix in some Olympic spirit!

The excitement was felt throughout our 1/2 classrooms as students reunited with their friends and teachers last Wednesday. Thank you again to our wonderful families who continue to support us in this ever-changing learning environment.

In Literacy we worked on reading skills in our mini reading groups including predicting, summarising and reorganising texts by finding key words. It was so wonderful seeing so many students record themselves reading aloud during remote learning. Reading aloud really helps with our expression and fluency. This is fantastic preparation as we move into Readers Theatre lessons this week where expression will continue to be a focus.

In Maths we practiced giving and following directions. Students created maps to explain to someone how to get around our school. We also investigated 3D shapes and continued to work on different division strategies.

During writing sessions students continue to work on punctuation, capital letters, spelling and handwriting when completing a reflection about their recent remote learning experience. We also had the challenging task of writing a persuasive piece about what is the best Olympic sport and why.

Students began learning about different countries for the beginning of our Guided Inquiry unit on Celebrating Differences! Hopefully your child tells you all about the new things they're learning in the coming weeks!

It was fantastic to see everyone participate in Indonesian Day and immerse themselves in the language and culture. Students participated in a range of learning activities  including playing the strategic game of Congklak, the marble game of Gundu and Gagah, Oranj, Semut which is a variation of Rock, Paper Scissors and creating wonderful wax and dye creations (Batik). Classes also participated in a range of games such as tug of war and 3 legged races and engaged in mindfulness Indonesian colouring-in.

Thank you Mrs.Gill for supplying the Indonesian traditional clothes!

Have a great week!
