Curriculum

Selamat siang!

It is so good to be back in the classroom! We are all thankful that we were able to work in the classroom together and catch up after the lockdown. Thanks again for all of the parent support during remote learning, and for the time taken to catch up during parent teacher phone calls. They were an excellent opportunity to touch base about your child's progress and discuss their next learning steps. If you haven't had a chance for a phone call with your child's teacher, please get in touch with them through Sentral to arrange a time.

It was so exciting to spend Thursday celebrating language and culture in our annual Indonesian Day! Students dressed in Indonesian style clothing, or red and white to represent the flag, and spent the day rotating through a range of different activities including mask making, shadow puppets and cooking delicious pandan pancakes!

In Literacy sessions last week, students began investigating the reading strategy of 'reorganisation. This requires students to piece together separated ideas or pieces of information from the text to form a conclusion or find an answer. Students read a range of different text experts and highlighted evidence from the text that supported their answers. Finding supporting evidence from the text is always a beneficial exercise to complete with your children by discussing books they read at home. Students also spent time writing and upleveling their own 'sizzling starts' for Narratives. This week, we will further investigate narrative writing and how to plan a strong story.

In Mathematics sessions across the week, students explored mental multiplication strategies including doubling, partitioning and halving. Through the playing of simple games such as multiplication war, students practised their multiplication fluency. This week, we will delve further into multiplication strategies including repeated addition and vertical multiplication. In Guided Inquiry, students discussed universal inventions that support people with different needs. Some excellent discussions were had about the way that these tools are used and where we have seen them in our lives. We look forward to continuing our conversations throughout the term.

Wishing you a fantastic week,

Mr Dix, Miss Gasowski, Mrs McCoy, Miss Molloy, Mr O’Connor and Miss Richardson :)
