Music Matters

As I write this we have returned to the online learning environment. We have started with some online rehearsals and I hope the students have made contact with their tutors and have started lessons. At the present time I do not know how long this situation will continue but we are still able to make a connection with students albeit online.

I did say in communication last week that the Year 12 Drama performances were going to take place on Sunday 18 July. The decision has been made to delay these performances by one week, to Sunday 25 July. At this stage it is without an audience according to COVID rules.

We will advise parents via email whether the PAPA Meeting will be held on Monday night. My article will be short this week as the situation unravels: all that’s left to say is to stay safe.

Drama Matters

In the final weeks of Term 2 Year 7 Drama classes 1, 3 and 5 were able to put together all the dramatic techniques they had learnt and focus on a  ‘Neutral Script’ duologue. Students were asked to create a how, what, where and why for each scene. They had to show all of these decisions practically (for example, where is the scene taking place?) by creating their ‘world’ through set, blocks and physicality. Here are just a few photos of over 80 students who participated in the task. A ‘neutral script’ is a short piece of text in which the characters, situation and setting are ambiguous. This ensures all performances need to have asked themselves these fundamental questions. Students also enjoyed the opportunity to wear costume.
