Junior School Report
Welcome to Term 2
A warm welcome to all of our Junior School students and their families, to Term 2 at Scoresby Secondary College. I had the opportunity to greet many of our junior students on their first day back and was very happy to find them all well rested and cheerful. Clearly, the term break was beneficial for all of us.
A reminder that all students are to be wearing their winter uniform during term 2 and a list of the winter uniform requirements can be found in the student planner. The days will become colder, as the term progresses, therefore black gloves and scarves are permitted to be worn.
The beginning of Term 2 also signals the beginning of the end of semester one and I encourage each student to reflect on the goals each person set, at the beginning of the year. All students should be aspiring for growth and improvement on an academic level as well as a personal and community level. Goals for growth and improvement may include;
I will endeavour to do one kind act a day, such as, help a friend carry books to class.
I will read one extra novel this term.
I will complete one extra hour of study per week.
I will attend the homework club this term.
I will be courteous and respectful of all school members.
I will get one hour extra sleep each weeknight.
Each student will have a different set of goals, however we should all be aiming to reach our goals and indeed, surpass them.
Once again, Homework Club will be operating throughout Term 2 and all students are encouraged to attend the sessions. Opportunities to sign up for interschool sports will be offered and again, all students are urged to be part of a team.
Coming up on Friday 19 May, Brainstorm Productions will be performing ‘Wired’ for our Year 7, 8 and 9 students. The performance follows the journey of two students who are struggling to manage their mental health, relationships, and online experiences. When their worlds collide, the audience must help them find a different path.
All students are expected to attend and interact with the activities that will be offered as the production addresses barriers to help-seeking and provides strategies for resilience, problem-solving, goal-setting, and positive mental health. More information regarding consent and a payment of $10.00 can be found on COMPASS events.
Scoresby Secondary College prides itself on providing continued support to all students to assist in their learning and personal growth. We encourage positive and constructive partnerships with parents and guardians, to ensure our students are inspired to be their very best. All students are expected to attend school and classes daily and any absences are to be report to the school. Parents and guardians are encouraged to contact either their students’ homegroup teacher or coordinator with any concerns or questions.
We look forward to a most productive Term 2 for all.
