Clean Up Australia Day

On Wednesday 8th of March Solway participated in Clean Up Australia Day. This saw a whole school focus on cleaning up rubbish and discussions of why maintaining a clean Australia is important. Additionally, The Green Team extended this initiative to the surrounding area, heading to Gardiners Creek to clean up any rubbish.

It was fantastic to see our leaders passionately participate in this cause. We were able to conduct a rubbish audit following the collection of rubbish, ensuring we were disposing of all rubbish properly.  It was an amazing day and a pressing reminder that we can always pick up rubbish regardless of whether or not it is ours.

Some highlights included:

Violet- I loved helping clean up Gardiners Creek fort clean up Australia Day.

Patrick - Seeing how many golf balls that we could find and being able to repurpose them.

Billie - I learnt that there are lots of rubbish and we need to clean it up.

Mitchell - I loved cleaning up Gardiners Creek and finding lots of golf balls and teas. Then sorting all of the rubbish into bins.

Patrick - That if someone doesn’t clean up and leaves their rubbish, we should take the initiative to tidy up so we can have a better future.

Evie - I loved cleaning around the creek we found so many golf balls

Sid - I loved helping cleaning up the kitchen garden

Mila - I loved going around the creek and cleaning rubbish and looking for golf balls

Tilly - my highlight was finding how many lost golf balls we could find as well as seeing how much rubbish there was around our area.

Monika - my highlight was collecting all the golf balls and sorting the rubbish in the correct bin.

I learnt what rubbish goes in what bin.

Bianca - my highlight was walking and talking. I also liked finding heaps of golf balls and tees.

Amelie - I really enjoyed going out with my teammates and making a difference in the world.  I was so surprised how much rubbish there was, especially after the other day when different people went crazy! I really liked coming back and sorting and cleaning up my school environment so much to learn!

Earth Hour

On Friday 24th of March, Solway classrooms switched off their lights for an hour to participate in the school’s Earth Hour. They learnt more about how we can make an impact participating in Earth Hour and had a look at different places around the world that have participated in Earth Hour, including Sydney, London and Paris.

The Prep learnt ways that they can help our environment and created an earth from their ideas, using Kinder circles.

Easter Waste

With Easter coming up, we would like to remind families that you can in fact recycle your Easter egg foil.  Here is a video to watch with your family to help prevent rubbish going to landfill.   Have a happy Easter!
