YEAR 10 teen MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID COURSE

Over the last term, all Year 10s at Sacred Heart College have had the opportunity to complete teen Mental Health First Aid sessions, an evidence-based course which is accredited by Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Australia.

Students now have their manuals to keep and those who attended the sessions are eligible to receive a certificate. While this course does disrupt the usual classes within a very busy timetable in the College, it is seen to be especially valuable, particularly at the moment as it appears that issues around mental health are rising significantly across the whole community. At Sacred Heart College, we are very lucky to be in the enviable position of being able to offer this potentially life saving course.

Some of the comments made directly from students who completed the course included the following:

  • “It was very informative and gave new content that people may need in life.”
  • “It was good to learn and good to learn about, especially in school. It kept the thought of looking out for others fresh on the mind.”
  • “I think this was useful and important.”
  • “It was great that we learnt about it so we know what to do in the future.”
  • “Very helpful for people our age on learning how to help someone if they need help.”
  • “Interesting and good to know.”
  • “It allowed me to develop new skills to help my friends.”
  • “I think it was very useful and applies to real life very well.”
  • “It was good, but I hope I don’t have to use this information.”
